With its advanced selective entry technology, our PetSafe® Microchip Cat Flap has been designed to allow your cat easy access to the outside world whilst keeping other troublesome cats and animals out of your house.
Using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, the PetSafe® Microchip Cat Flap works by reading your cat’s unique microchip ID without the need for a collar or accessory. When your cat approaches the cat flap, the flap will respond by allowing only your cat to enter. The cat flap will remain locked and deny access to cats that are not programmed, wild animals, pests and strays.
The cat flap is also designed with a convenient Manual 4-Way lock that allows you to control the access of your programmed cats.
The PetSafe® Microchip Cat Flap reads the most common type of microchip implanted in cats – FDX-B (15-digit). If you are not sure what type of microchip your cat has, try our microchip compatibility checker, and enter your cat’s microchip ID to verify that your microchip is compatible.
Your PetSafe® Microchip Cat Flap or Petporte smart flap® Microchip Cat Flap will only work if your cat has been fitted with a microchip.
At present, some older and non-standard microchips may not work with this cat flap. You can check to see if your cat’s embedded microchip will work by entering the number in the box below and clicking the "check" button.
You will find your cat’s microchip number on your microchip registration form which will have been issued to you by your vet.
A quality constructed item but unless the microchip in your pet is at the top of the neck close to the head, the microchip sensor within the cat flap will not read your pets microchip due to its limited range.

Unfortunately microchips indeed have a very limited (6-7 cm) sending range, which can influence the picking-up of the number by the catflap, as it needs to be in that range with the scanner (placed around the tunnel).
Possibly the Petporte, with the scanner horizontally placed, might solve the issue, if the chip has not moved downwards.

Didn't work at first as our P.V.C door had a metal skin. Installed the adaptor plate and, bingo, the flap worked fine. We have a very happy cat.
Took a while to fit, didn't work at first as we realised there was a metal skin in our PVC door. However, now we have fitted the adaptor, it works very well.
I have given only 4 stars, as it is early days, but as long as the batteries don't die when we're on holiday, I think it is brilliant....so does the cat
Bought this flap from our local pets at home store - it works amazing for two of our three cats, but one cat (typically the one who goes out the most) it doesn’t pick up until she’s really having a fight with the flap or practically her whole body is in the tiny bit of tunnel.
It seems her microchip (which was fitted a week ago) May be further down her back than the others ? Annoying to say the least !!
I Would return if it didn’t work so well with the other two.
So, all in all a good flap but not good if the chip was inserted (or has travelled further than range)
My cat is frightened by the click when she attempts to go through the cat flap and after a week just refuses to use it.
I’m very surprised that the click which indicated the microchip has been recognised and the flap would allow my cat to go through it , is so obvious ( no doubt very loud for a cat who have acute hearing), and anyone with a pet knows that clicking sounds really frighten cats and dogs.

We are sorry to see your cat, after a week, still has problems with the click.
The click is actually a solenoid that opens and closes the lock. Due to the nature of solenoids there is a noticeable sound, but our experience and of customers using this microchip catflap or the Petporte, show that cats generally will get used to it. Especially as they know it brings them back into the home, back to warmth, dryness, food and you.
