As soon as the temperature drops below -20 the outer door gets rigid enough the outer frame along the top broke. This happened with two doors this year one of which was a replacement for a non extreme weather door that failed the same way.
Need to design aluminum out frame instead of brittle plastic.
Extreme weather door good until about -15 then not worth the $s
PetSafe Response: Thank you for taking the time to share your review, Brad. We're terribly sorry to hear of your Extreme Weather Pet Door has cracked. We understand how upsetting this can be. You may find it helpful to know that if this door was made of metal it will allow for transfer of the temperature outdoors, this is the reason the door was designed of plastic. We want to help you find the pet door that will work best in your home, please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team for assistance.
The outside plastic frame has broken off at the top where the screws hold the exterior flap and now that has torn off. The magnetic strip for the exterior flap has also come off. We have the large door and it is used by two Afghans and a Sheltie. It’s only been a couple years and already needs replacement of the exterior flap &/or completely new unit. Also, that snap on security door is lousy!! Ive snapped off fingernails trying to remove it, yet somehow one of my afghan hounds has no problem taking it off!
> PetSafe Response> Hello Val, let me start by saying we're very sorry to hear the issues you've run into with your Extreme Weather Door. A good trick to removing/attaching the closing panel is to grip the two "wings" on either side of the panel with your fingertips and, at the same time, press into the centre of the closing panel with your thumbs; this should allow you to remove/attach the panel without too much trouble. If the frame itself is damaged or cracked, a replacement would likely be needed. We would be happy to provide the best replacement options available to you and assist with any other problems you might be running into with the door. Please give us a call and we'll be glad to help out!
